Herbal Essences

Has anyone seen the latest Herbal Essence commercials? The one where the woman is in the bathroom on the plane? And she basically expresses herself very loudly- sounding most exactly like she is having an orgasm-from washing her hair with Herbal Essences? This, in my opinion is very disgusting and demeaning to women.
Why?
- It basically says, women love Herbal Essences so much they get orgasms from using it- they value beauty products so much that the act of using them causes them to have an orgasm. Deeming us women as shallow, sex hungry fiends who only value outward appearances.
-Having an orgasm is a private & in many cases an event that occurs when a woman is with someone she trusts. In this commercial by belittling a private, wonderful, & natural sensation for a woman by downgrading it to something a woman can supposedly achieve by washing her hair in public on an airplane (which is strange in of itself that someone would do that) and then broadcasting it on said plane  with no shame is telling us women that we should A) not feel bad about making others uncomfortable and B) think that keeping our sexual lives to ourselves is somehow wrong or strange. Why not just orgasm loudly for tons of strangers to hear?
-This commercial is seen by young girls, who do not need anymore overly sexualized images/situations thrown in their lives. They get enough by just going shopping or turning on the TV to watch a children's show & having to search for modest clothing or immediately see a young girl with makeup on dressed like a twenty something.
-The woman in the commercial is already dressed up unrealistically, she is dressed so overtly sexy, & then she orgasms over shampoo? If a young boy sees this, what does this commercial tell him about women & how to think of them? It tells him that women dress up like sex pots on a normal basis & will just orgasm for other's pleasure (meaning the others on the airplane not complaining when she turns on the loudspeaker) without a second thought.

Honestly, this commercial is just horrid. If you don't agree I really don't mind- just don't expect that women actually behave or should behave & look like the woman in this commercial.

Pampering Things

So, basically I love to pamper myself & I love excess. Hence my fascination with the Victorian Era, & the absolute fantasy world created by classic rockers. The opulence of The Beatles psychedelic era, the overt over the top sexuality of Aerosmith, and the faerie witch style of Stevie Nicks.
So, in keeping with my fascinations, I dress up each day the best I can and I do things that make me feel as if I could be Dolly Parton sittin on top of a cupcake with baby kittens. Yes. That was just said.
I fix my false eyelashes each day, put on red lipstain before bed and I am a believer in lipstick and Chanel No5.
Maybe this post sounds frivolous, I mean, my blog is about my art & life as an artist- but I think that as a woman, however you choose to, pampering yourself gives you so much confidence. I choose a rather traditional route for the most part, but I also LOVE collecting vinyl records & playing my guitar. Vinyl records are so special in my opinion, they have such a rich sound that CDs cannot replicate. As for my guitars- they literally make me so happy I could explode.
I believe that indulging yourself in things that make you happy each day keep you sane, personally they help with panic attacks, for others I know they just help remind the person that no matter what the day had brought into their life, there is always something nice & comforting to look forward to.
Maybe I sound like a feminist a bit, but that's okay by me. Make up should make you happy, it should not be a mask. Your hobbies should let you express yourself, not what society thinks a woman should be fascinated with. I've always had these strong views, and often wanted to turn them into art but I'm still letting the idea stew in my head until its good & ready.
So, the moral is, pampering I believe helps you be yourself & let's you figure out how to fly your own freak flag.

FYI: freak flags are the best.
Ps: making weird faces is also one of my hobbies.
